Gear Up!

Although Bearpaw River Expeditions will supply all of your essential rafting gear, there are certain "extras" that will increase your comfort. We want you to be comfortable and secure so that you can fully enjoy your Lochsa experience. Trips in April and May have a greater chance of inclement weather than on trips during June and July. It is likely that you will probably never need to use many of the items on the list. However, it is always a good idea to be prepared for changing weather conditions... Bearpaw will provide each paddler with a helmet, a personal floatation device (life jacket), a splash jacket, a fleece pullover, a neoprene wetsuit, and neoprene booties. Please consult the following list of optional additional gear that you can bring to enhance your comfort and enjoyment:

One-Day Trip Gear

Although Bearpaw River Expeditions will supply all of your essential gear, there are certain "extras" that will increase your comfort. We want you to be comfortable and secure so that you can fully enjoy your Lochsa experience. Please consult the following list of suggested gear to bring.
Long underwear (made of polypropylene or silk, wool, or any other water wicking material) to wear under your wet suit. This is especially important on early season/cool weather trips. On late season/warm weather trips, a swim suit is a good choice to wear under the wet suit.
Thick wool socks to wear under your booties
A warm sweater to wear under your splash jacket; fleece, capeline or wool are good materials to use
Paddling gloves
Raingear
Water bottle
Sunglasses with a retainer strap
Waterproof camera
Trunks to wear over your wet suit
Sunscreen
Hat
River Knowledge: it is better to have too much rather than not enough.

Note: Cotton should never be worn on a cool Lochsa trip. Cotton holds water against your body and makes it difficult to stay warm. The previously mentioned materials are much better to wear on your trip.

A camping gear list is available to our multi-day river guests upon request.
